Solar Government Updates for West Bengal

What homeowners and businesses in Hooghly and Kolkata need to know about PM Surya Ghar, net metering and DCR panel rules, with direct links to official government sources.

Key schemes & rules

The three things that matter most

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

The central rooftop solar scheme for homes. Subsidy is ₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, up to ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above, paid directly to your bank account after commissioning. Systems must use DCR panels and be installed by a registered vendor.

Net metering (WBSEDCL & CESC)

A net meter records the electricity you import and the solar power you export, and your bill is adjusted on the difference. In our area you apply through WBSEDCL or CESC. Under PM Surya Ghar the net meter request is part of the portal workflow, followed by DISCOM inspection and commissioning.

DCR panels & ALMM

Subsidised rooftop systems must use DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) panels: made in India with Indian-made cells. MNRE also maintains the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) for solar products. Ask your installer for DCR certificates and panel serial numbers.

Beware of fake subsidy websites and calls. Register only on pmsuryaghar.gov.in or the official app. The Government pays subsidy only to your own bank account, after your system is inspected and commissioned.
